Lubbock police received a call this morning that had all the ear-markings of a super-duper hostage situation. Read more after the break.

Here's what happened according to KFYO news:

Lubbock police received a report that a man was firing an assault rifle at the ground in the 3000 block of Avenue U this morning, then forced his way into the nearby home.

The Po-po were then called and a dozen men surrounded the house.  Moments got tense, a drop of sweat fell from someones brow hitting the ground with an echoing thunder that belied the drops tiny size...a clock ticked a second or two and somewhere in the distance a bird flew off sensing impending danger. Just then, when the tension was so thick you couldn't cut it with a new set of Teflon Masterchef knifes, the man and woman walked out of the residence holding hands-complete unaware that the cops were there.

Upon further investigation police concluded the man had been emptying his paint ball gun into the ground then went next door to get his girlfriend. Wah-wah-waaaaaah!

Evidently some busy-body neighbor misreported the whole incident.  The police were able to save a little face and arrest the man for outstanding warrants.
