I'm going to be very blunt and honest here- if you talk during a regular movie screening at a theater, I assume you are selfish, ignorant, and were not raised correctly.

It's not just teens or kids doing it- I saw/ heard an entire crowd of 50-ish, obviously wealthy women do it at a live performance of Les Miserables. It's like a plague of self-absorption and low attention span that's run rampant in our society.

For many of us, it makes the theater experience intolerable. I walked out of the last movie I saw in the theater—not because the film was bad but because I could hear several conversations people were having around me while the film played. I was too distracted and too angry to deal with it, so I left.

Now, Texas theaters have to ask patrons to refrain from engaging in a TikTok-led trend of yelling and clapping during A Minecraft Movie. Here is one example, and I'm grateful they are saying something:

"But what about Rocky Horror Picture Show?" Sure, I get that. Some movie experiences are enhanced by audience participation.

However, this is a brand new film, and the people yelling and clapping have gotten the cues from people filming inside theaters, another unforgivably obnoxious behavior.

"But it's a kids movie! Let kids be kids!" Yes, and then they grow into the terrible adults I cannot stand to be around.

Perhaps the solution is very simple: Theaters could have "rowdy" screenings (like some did for the Magic Mike franchise) and some designated silent screenings. However, it seems like that would have to be done for every single film that comes to theaters.

And there would still be plenty of people flashing the light of their phone and having a loud conversation during the film, regardless of whether it's a kids movie, a serious documentary, or a horror flick. People just cannot behave themselves.

It's particularly befuddling because it's cheaper to watch a movie at home- where no one will judge you for yapping or scrolling.

Because at the theater, I certainly am.
