When I was a young boy, my father took me into the city to see a marching band. He said, 'son, when you grow up, you'll actually be a 30-something woman who will whip that plastic out for a makeup palette based on this band because, OMG, look at it.'

It was a weird thing he said.

In all seriousness, My Chemical Romance's "Black Parade" is the song that always reminds me fondly of Papa. Emo or not, MCR songs are pure dark fun: the inheritor of the gothic music before it and the grandaddy of new and exciting music stylings going on a full 16ish years later. But the influence doesn't stop with music.

Not every rock star adopts an iconic look, but I sure do love it when they do. David Bowie maybe did it best, but other artists, like Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, and of course, Gerard Way of MCR, nailed an aesthetic that spoke to us nearly as much as the songs did themselves.

Based on the highly influential album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge comes a My Chemical Romance X Hipdot makeup collab that looks amazing to me. I'm a bit of a makeup snob, so I'm usually skeptical of "famous person" palettes, though to be honest there are quite a few really wonderful ones out there. My biggest workhorse palette is an Anastacia of Beverly Hills collab with Texas native Alyssa Edwards. It's so good that it's been out for years at this point and has been continually made and available since.

Hipdot X My Chemical Romance drops on Hipdot's website starting Thursday, December 10th. With those rich reds and silky silvers, I'm buying the ticket, taking the ride. Let us relive 2006 in style. It was a better time, even if it felt so.... black eyeliner back then. Give 'Em Hell, Kid.
