Flyleaf's changing of the guard with new vocalist Kristen May has many fans curious about what to expect from the band's live shows. This Friday (October 3), Lubbock will find out firsthand.

Guitarist Sameer Bhattacharya called in to discuss the upcoming show, plus touch on the year that helped the band find its new voice.

"It was refreshing to have a fresh year in the room and have someone who is as talented as Kristen, the way she approaches her melodies and her lyrics," said Bhattacharya. "With Flyleaf, we've always been very abstract with our approach to lyrics and the stories in the songs...[but] the way Kristen writes is very direct and very specific, which is actually real difficult to do."

Bhattacharya also tackled the subject of critics who have dismissed May, who became Flyleaf's new singer in 2012 following the departure of vocalist and founding member Lacey Sturm.

"The magic is still there," Bhattacharya said. "There's a rejuvenation in the band, so the live show is over the top and really, really powerful. 'Between the Stars' I think is the best record we've written."
