Scott Stapp Recalls ‘Crazy, Mystical Experience’ of Touring on Same Bus Scott Weiland Died In
In December 2015, Scott Weiland was found dead on his tour bus, and it was later revealed that the bus was also used by two other prominent rockers before and after this death. Nikki Sixx noted that the bus had been his prior to Weiland touring in it, while Scott Stapp soon learned that he was given that same bus after the former Stone Temple Pilots singer's passing. In a new interview with GQ, Stapp, who famously battled demons of his own in 2014, reveals he had some interesting experiences while on the bus, including a moment in which it felt like Weiland was speaking to him.
"All of a sudden, it was almost like Weiland speaking to me from the grave, man. It was a very weird feeling that I felt," recalls the singer. "I remember being in the bathroom, looking in the mirror, on the bus, and really feeling like I could hear or feel him saying, ‘Dude, this could have been you. And this could be you if you continue that path. Don’t do what I did. Don’t go down that road.’ And, literally, I’m having this moment."
When asked if he actually saw Weiland while on the bus, Stapp stated, “No. God rest his soul, and my family has prayed for his family and his children, but really it was a crazy, mystical experience. It was just in my face, man. I had my moment of, like, Dude, he’s speaking to me, man. Almost as if, from my standpoint, in my life and in my recovery, his death was not in vain. Not only could that have been me, that should have been me. It was just one of those weird things that kinda, like, the stars aligned, the universe arranged itself at the right time to further impact me and further solidify my commitment to my recovery. It was definitely one of those God moments. I get goosebumps right now just talking about it. It was a God moment."
Ironically, later in the year, Stapp would fill the role once held by Weiland, singing for Art of Anarchy. Weiland appeared on the band's first album, but upon the announcement of their first disc, the singer stated that he was not a part of the group. After Weiland's death, Art of Anarchy announced that Stapp would be their new singer, and they recently released their second disc, The Madness.
