Stone Sour’s ‘Hydrograd’ Wins Hard Rock Album of the Year – 2017 Loudwire Music Awards
Simply put, it's definitely Stone Sour's year! After teasing fans with their covers EPs in 2016, the seasoned five-piece hit the ground running and delivered one of the most anticipated releases of 2017 -- the Hydrograd disc -- which has won the 2017 Loudwire Music Awards Hard Rock Album of the Year.
The disc arrived at the end of June, already gaining traction for the simultaneously released one-two punch of the harder rocking "Fabuless" and the more rock radio ready "Song #3." Both tracks helped set the tone for a well rounded album that showed what the band could do across the board in all styles of rock. Songs like concert favorite "Taipei Person/Allah Tea," the driving rocker "Mercy," the aggressive, frenetically-paced "Somebody Stole My Eyes" and the bluesy late year single "Rose Red Violent Blue" have given listeners one of Stone Sour's most complete, top-to-bottom experiences of their career.
Hydrograd was a definite favorite amongst Loudwire's readers and those voting on the awards, with the disc earning just shy of half of the total vote. Papa Roach's Crooked Teeth and Starset's Vessels provided the closest competition in the voting, while Highly Suspect's The Boy Who Died Wolf, At the Drive In's In*ter*a*li*a and Royal Thunder's Wick also made for a solid representation of the best of hard rock's spectrum over the past year.
Kudos to Stone Sour, winners of a Hand of Doom Loudwire Music Awards trophy Hard Rock Album of the Year for Hydrograd presented by The Music Experience.
