Despite Elon Musk's "in" with President Donald Trump, Texas lawmakers have declined to give him something he wanted- more access to a Texas beach for his SpaceX facilities, according to CNBC News.

Why Did SpaceX Need More Boca Chica Beach?

When SpaceX performs a launch, they typically need to close the beach and nearby roads. To do this, they must first get permission from local authorities. Closing these public areas off has resulted in the ire of locals and visitors to the area, with some even protesting the launches.

If Elon Musk/ SpaceX had gotten what they wanted from lawmakers, they would have no longer need to ask permission to launch as they please.

Why Is SpaceX Controversial In Texas?

Texans have a great love affair with Elon Musk...right? Well, not all Texans want to give him a free pass on everything. Some are concerned not only with restricted access to a public beach, but also with the environmental damage the launches cause, including polluting water and hurting area wildlife populations.

What's Next For SpaceX In Texas?

Starbase.

The area around SpaceX, known as Starbase, will likely become the newest city in Texas, pending election results on May 3rd of this year.

According to the Texas Tribune, if this does happen, residents in the area will build a city government "from the ground up." They will need to elect a mayor and commissioners who will do things like set budgets and manage roads and utilities.

So is it likely Musk will ultimately get what he wants anyway? Probably, and he will be waving back to Texas all the way from Mars.
