2014 Big Purple Party – Filter – Wood’s Eye View
This is the 2nd set of photos from the 2014 KFMX Big Purple Party, at the Lone Star Amphitheater and Pavilion. This set covers Filter, crowd shots, and a special armed forces presentation. Filter was joined by special guest Chino Moreno towards the end of their set, and at one point Richard Patrick, Filter's lead singer, fell over the barrier and disappeared under the crowd all without missing a beat! Picts after the jump. Carry On...

The Who sang "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss"; but they didn't know that this boss still has the sauce! Yep, we're laying it on thick.  We've been Lubbock's Home of Rock and Roll, Lubbock's Pure Rock, and Lubbock's Absolute Rock.  Now, we're headed back home.  We are Lubbock's Rock Station.  More after the jump.

Okay, this guy rips everything from Buddy Holly to Mastodon in twelve minutes.  Yeah, you can pick it apart how he jumps over cool new stuff from Avenged and a few others, but what is in here is absolutely amazing.  More after the jump.

There are some songs that just take you to a different place when you hear them.  "Brendan's Death Song" is one of those songs for me.  This is just an epic tune.  The fact that it starts slow ALMOST makes you forget that the jam in the middle is absolutely epic.  Flea is just tearing it up.   There's only one downside to the video. I'll tell you about it after the break.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were one of my first favorite bands.  By "favorite' I mean a band that I followed all through their career, saw multiple times in concert, bought their stuff and more.  For some reason, whether the current trend was rock, new wave or even metal, there always seemed to be room for Tom Petty.  Now, when grunge got big, I wasn't the biggest Nirvana fan, instead I

Despite having that 'pop' edge to a lot of their punk, the Offspring haven't really crossed over to Top 40 radio.  Now, in case you don't know, Top 40 is where artists GET PAID.  I can see the Offspring getting paid with this song, the question is, will us rockers, who are currently enjoying "Days Go By" still accept the Offspring after this tune?  More after the jump.

Dec. 28 marks the second anniversary of the death of Avenged Sevenfold drummer The Rev. The stickman, born James Sullivan, died at the age of 28, due to an accidental overdose of a mixture of prescription drugs. An enlarged heart was suggested as another thing that could have factored into the kit minder’s tragic and untimely death.
