The Red Raiders took the week off after consecutive cancellations due to Coronavirus in the TCU and Iowa State programs and even without playing any basketball games the team moved up in the rankings. The Red Raiders are up two spots to number 10 in the latest poll.

The top five features two Big 12 teams with Gonzaga remaining on top followed by Baylor, Villanova, Michigan, and Texas. Oklahoma enters the poll at 24th and Texas Tech opponent Houston lands at 6th overall.

The Red Raiders jumped a Big 12 team on their way to 10th passing the Kansas Jayhawks after they lost two more Big 12 games since the last time the Red Raiders played. The Jayhawks are now sitting at 15th in the nation. Texas Tech also stayed in front of West Virginia who missed three games before hammering Kansas State on Saturday.

10th ranked Texas Tech now heads to Morgantown to play the 12th ranked Mountaineers on ESPN tonight, January 25th, at 8:00 p.m. on ESPN as part of Big Monday.

The Red Raiders also had a schedule update in regards to their postponed games last week. Texas Tech will play their game against TCU on Monday, January 25th. That's after a Saturday in Waco against Baylor. Then the TCU game in Fort Worth, then a home game against TCU in Lubbock on Wednesday before traveling to Lawrence, Kansas to play against the struggling Jayhawks.

Texas Tech has now been a top-10 team in three of five seasons under head coach Chris Beard. They hit the top ten mark in both 2018 and 2019 during the regular seasons on their way to Elite 8 runs. The highest regular-season mark Beard's squad has hit was number 6th overall in 2018 with Keanan Evans leading the way. Before Beard, the Red Raiders were in the top-10 just once in the 1996 regular season when they reached number 7.
