Texas Tech’s Newest Quarterback is on Campus and Ready to Practice
The Red Raiders quarterback battle can officially begin.
After the Red Raiders started practice last week with highly touted freshman Behren Morton and former starter Henry Colombi last week. The presumptive starter is now definitely on campus after Tyler Shough arrived. Morton, Colombi, and Shough will comprise the bulk of the quarterback battle with an outside shot of Donovon Smith winning the job. There's also San Angelo native Maverick McIvor who is still in the mix as well.
Shough was announced today via a press release from the Athletics Department which confirmed that Shough was signed to a scholarship agreement that will allow the signal-caller to join the team immediately for spring practices. Those practices resume on the 23rd of March and will run until the middle of April. When Shough steps on the field with the rest of his teammates he will have only missed two practices out of the team's 15.
Shough arrives at Texas Tech as a graduate transfer after recently earning his dual undergraduate degree in criminal justice and political science from the University of Oregon.
“We’re excited to add a quarterback with Tyler’s ability and experience to our quarterback room,” Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells said. “I’m looking forward to watching all of our quarterbacks compete this spring under coach (Sonny) Cumbie, and Tyler will only help in making that position better.”
