The grieving process after losing a loved one can look different depending on the person, this is shown very well by a recent trend on TikTok.

The trend uses the song “Pope is a Rockstar” by SALES, specifically part of the song that says “Pope is a rockstar”. However, many people hear the lyrics as “go little rockstar”, and that is what started the trend.

Although it began as a way for people to show the achievements of their loved ones, it soon adopted a new meaning. This new meaning involves many people’s grieving process over the loss of a loved one. Whether it is the loss of a friend, parent, or pet.

Some people get tattoos to memorialize their loved ones, some wear jewelry that reminds them of the one they lost, and others just hold onto their memory. I’m the type to typically hold onto the memory of them, but however you chose to mourn is valid, and you should not be ashamed of it. Something I think more people need to acknowledge is that it is also okay to take the time you need to grieve.

Some of the videos I relate to a lot are the ones that show people who have gotten a new puppy but can’t stop thinking about their dog that passed. Obviously, you don’t love your new puppy any less, but there will always be a hole in your heart left behind from the dog that came before them. It comes down to recognizing that just because you have this new pet doesn’t mean the grieving process must end for the family member you previously lost.

The same goes with losing any other loved one. I have lost people in my life from car accidents, old age, and even suicide. No matter how many years pass, it still hurts to think about losing them. But, when you allow yourself to mourn, it is easier to reflect on the happy moments you shared with them.

Losing someone you love can be so brutal that it is debilitating. You need to take that time to recover and heal just like if it were a physical injury. But, it’s also a part of life. So, once you have allowed yourself to grieve, you pick yourself back up and keep going while holding the memory of them in your heart.

If you are in need of a good cry or are looking for some comfort that you are not alone, here are some of the TikToks in this trend that hit me the hardest:
