Tool’s Maynard James Keenan: ‘You’re Gonna See Some New Music Next Year’
Maynard James Keenan has promised there will be new music - ostensibly from Tool - coming next year. He went on record last night (June 11) while accepting the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Icon Award in a ceremony hosted at the IndigO2 in London, England.
"I wouldn't be here without you guys, so thank you very much for all that." Keenan says in a brief speech which can be seen above. "A lot of work's being done, a lot of work's been done. I'll go on record now saying you're gonna see some new music next year."
Keenan's proclamation comes just a day after a post on the Tool official Facebook page revealed a picture from the studio showing bassist Justin Chancellor's equipment which was captioned, "Justin's bass setup in the studio. Sounds like he is making great progress recording in 'a great studio.'"
Tool's last 10,000 Days, came out twelve years ago. The band has been playing shows and there has been some reported progress on the album, which they've been working with producer Joe Barresi. Drummer Danny Carey apparently has completed all the drum tracking for the album. Tool officially entered the studio this past March.
Last month, Keenan ribbed his bandmates onstage during their performance at Northern Invasion about completing the LP. Revealing why he chooses to dress in tactical gear, Keenan said, "I'm afraid of bananas and other forms of fruit because eventually you wonderful people are going to run out of fucking patience. So I beg you Danny, Adam, and Justin, please finish your parts so I can finish mine."
