Holy Bug Guts! Has The Apocalypse Begun In West Texas?

I've driven across Texas more times than I can count, and I've never encountered anything like the swarms of mayflies that met their demise on my front bumper and windshield last Saturday. It was like something out of a horror film.

I was heading down US 380, on a roughly 50-mile stretch between Post and Jayton when it got so bad that I had to pull over to the side of the road. My windshield wipers and fluid were no match for the relentless downpour of bugs. It was wild, y'all!

Mayflies emerge in late June to early July, and since I was out on July 3rd, that makes a lot of sense. I thought for a second I might be caught amid an apocalyptic event. It sure felt like it. I was also the only car on the road! I didn't see another person my entire trip and started to think that maybe I'd been left behind...haha.

I didn't see the aftermath until the following morning and the photos were too crazy not to share. I'm taking my car in for a wash today. I'll be giving a huge tip to whoever is working because it's horrific. I already feel bad.
