Welcome To Lubbock, There's Plenty To Do Here

"What is there to do in Lubbock?" It's a pretty big question, so let's get started.

When someone says, "What is here to do in Lubbock?", the first question in response needs to be "Who's asking?". I would assume that the three people most likely to ask that question would be students, new residents, and area tourists. I guess you could also add tourists in general, but I'm going to assume that if you're from Italy or something, you already have some reason to be here and don't need my help. Our big concern would actually be "area tourists" who are dropping in on the town.

Next up, in Lubbock, you have to take advantage of things when they happen. There's not always going to be something poppin'. You have to plan ahead, and if you do, then you'll have plenty of choices.

Let's start with some big stuff. All of the above might enjoy some Texas Tech sports. Football is the big one, but there are any number of sports that are worthy of your attention and cost nothing, or practically nothing to check out. I LOVE the composite schedule Tech has online.

All of the above will probably want to mark First Friday Art Trail on your calendar. All of the above are also going to want to include shopping and eating out on their list of things to do. Those seem like pretty basic things, but they take up a lot of time. We also have four major places with the latest and greatest movies. That may not seem like a lot, but if you're coming here from the big city, you only visited your one neighborhood theater anyways. You should also look for a ton of pop-up markets, craft fairs, and food truck events.

Lubbock is a midsized market so we don't get a ton of touring musicians or productions here, but if you keep your eyes out, you'll find that opportunities do happen. You are definitely going to want to check in with The Buddy Holly Hall to stay on top of a lot of it.

Fall and Winter will bring some fun activities, including (my own) Nightmare On 19th Street Haunted Theme Park (as well as a few others). You might also want to check out one of the world's largest pancake breakfasts in February, and the Lubbock Arts Festival in April.

Focusing on you students, you are 100% going to want to check in with the Texas Tech Student Union and Activities, they alone can keep you busy for four years, Add to that your hanging out time with friends and private get-togethers and your social calendar will fill up before you know it. Yes, I know Lubbock can be really boring on an odd Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. (for example) but you just have to pick your moments.
