10 Completely and Painfully True Stereotypes of People From Lubbock

A stereotype is "a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing."

What comes to mind, right off the bat, when you think of Lubbock, Texas?

I asked residents to tell me what they thought the biggest stereotypes were for people who live in the 806. Some are hilarious. Others are brutal. But, it's all in good fun, guys. Don't get your panties in a wad. There's no shame in poking a little fun at your hometown every once in a while. It's the glue that holds this dang place together!

1. We've all lost a Toyota Corolla to flood waters.

2. Cowboy boots are appropriate for any situation. Job interview. Funeral. Wedding. You name it. We're rockin' boots in the Hub City.

3. We have the worst drivers of all time and blinker usage is optional. Many of us prefer to park our vehicles in random living rooms, especially in the middle of the night...

4. We are extraordinarily passionate about our favorite place to get chicken strips.

5. Everyone loves Texas Tech. You won't find a single burnt orange shirt in town. Zero.

6. The entire town of Lubbock eats at Bryan's Steaks after church. It's the only way.

7. Everybody here has a big white truck, or at the very least, a close pal who is ready to loan one in a pinch.

8. Our collective boozy beverage of choice is the Chilton.

9. We all love Buddy Holly and listen to him daily. Rumor has it, that some of us even pray to him...

10. We all wish Lubbock were Dallas, but we'd rather die than actually live in Dallas. "Honey, I think what Lubbock needs is a Pappadeaux..."
