A hit and run occurred on Sunday, April 2, in Lubbock County. Emergency crews were dispatched at 8 a.m. to the area near Highway 62/82 just outside of Idalou after reports that a body was in the area.

At the scene police were able to identify the body as that of 35-year-old Norma Linda Borjas who investigators say was struck by a vehicle while walking across the southwest travel lanes on US 62. The vehicle that struck Norma did flee the scene before emergency crews could arrive.

As of now there has been no arrests and the identity of the driver is not yet known but KAMC news reports that Norma's family is seeking answers. The family states that Norma had been in an abusive relationship and believes she was finally leaving that relationship as she had two duffel bags with her that morning.

Norma's family asks that whoever is responsible for her death to step forward and take responsibility, whether it was on purpose or an accident. Norma was the mother of a 7-year-old boy who is now without a mother and a family without their sister. Norma's sister, Elizabeth Russwurd, says she is left with the memories of their childhood together and how her big sister made it the best childhood she could have asked for.

Anyone with information regarding this hit and run incident is urged to contact police at 806-740-8770, Norma's family is seeking answers. Norma's family has also set up a GoFundMe to help pay for her funeral expenses.
