What’s Something Every Lubbock Newcomer Learns the Hard Way?

Moving to Lubbock is simple enough to do.

You find a place to live, unpack your stuff, figure out where the grocery store is, and bam, you're a Lubbock local.

There are, however, a few things you don't learn here until you've already made a mistake.

Let's take a look at what newcomers end up learning the hard way.

THINGS LUBBOCK NEWCOMERS LEARN THE HARD WAY

1. You kind of need a car to live here.

Sure, you can take public transportation, but it's not the greatest. Walking to the grocery store here is much different than walking to the store in a big city. Things are spread out...big time...

If you don't have a car now, you'll probably break down and buy one soon. I know a guy who bikes everywhere, but...he's also been hit by a few cars over the years. No thanks. And those Lime Scooters get old fast.

2. You need to know your exits.

After the 2nd trip around the Loop, you'll probably figure it out. Eventually, you'll develop a 6th sense for knowing when your exist it coming up. Those turnarounds eat so much time out of your commute to work when you make a mistake.

3. You will eventually have a wind-related personal crisis

Trampoline might decide it likes the neighbor's house better.

Or, you could choose to wear a skirt to work on the wrong day.

Don't forget panties. Trust me.

4. You need to learn a little geography.

People have very specific ideas about different portions of town. Saying you live in one of them will come with 17 follow-up questions. Lubbock isn't just "Lubbock."

Not all parts are created equally (for some reason), but maybe you can be part of the solution...

5. Everybody knows somebody.

Except for you, since you're news.
