Friday, June 18th, 2021 at noon, Plainview's new Aquatic Center at M.B. Hood Park will soft open for summer fun and fitness.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for June 21st, 2021 at 11 a.m., and the public is invited to attend. The facility will be managed by the YMCA, and will have several amenities.

From the City of Plainview's press release:

The Center includes a main lounge pool, swim lanes, a rock wall, a children’s pool and a splash pad, and slides. There are also dressing rooms, lockers, showers and a concession snack bar.

Infants can enjoy the pool for free, while YMCA members 11 years old and younger can use the facilities for $3. YMCA members 12 and older can get in for $5. For non-members 11 and under, the admission is $5, and for kids 12 and older, it's $7.

There are other rental options available:

Cabana Rentals are also available for $10.00 of 2.5 hours and rental of the pavilion for parties during normal hour is $125.00 for 2 hours. The Aquatics Center is also available for private party rentals.

Even though I live in Lubbock, I'm very happy our neighbors to the north will have this amenity in their community. Giving folks the opportunity to learn how to swim saves lives. From myswimpro:

According to the World Health Organization, there are an estimated 372,000 annual drowning deaths worldwide every year. Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury deaths and account for 7% of all injury-related deaths globally.

And with as hot as this summer has already been, we all need a way to cool off.
