Serious Bus Crash In Austin Sends Kids And Driver To Hospital
10 people ended up in the hospital on Wednesday after a horrific elementary school bus rollover on a rural north Austin road. 9 of those transported to the hospital were children, and the 10th was the school bus driver. 43 people were on the school bus at the time of the accident. It was after school, and children were being dropped off, according to Bruce Gearing, superintendent of the Leander Independent School District.
Leander Schoolbus Rollover
So far, it's unclear what caused the vehicle to roll over and off the road. The bus allegedly drove off the right side of the road just before it rolled off. It was noted that there is a slight curve in the road, but preliminary investigations are ongoing.
At this point, we don't know if the bus driver was at fault for this incident; however, the superintendent said the driver was a "seasoned veteran" and that the bus typically carries kids from the local elementary school. The bus is also said to have seatbelts, but so far, we don't know how many kids were wearing them.
