There are a LOT of good Thai spots in Lubbock, but I’m just gonna say it: Bangkok Thai Restaurant still absolutely holds up. Smack-friggin'-tastic, dude.

I had the chance to go yesterday, and my food was incredible. The portion sizes are huge as ever. The to-go box in my fridge at home has been calling my name all morning at work, and I can't wait to go home, climb under my covers, and devour it over a few true crime shows.

Pro Tip: Thai food tastes best in bed. Don't judge. Just try it.

For those of you who have never been to Bangkok Thai Restaurant, here's the deal:

The outside of the building doesn't exactly scream "luxury dining experience," but I'm telling you, that's how you know the food is about to be crazy good. Some of the most delicious restaurants in Lubbock look like they've been minding their own business since 1998, and those same places are the ones serving up food I swear could heal whatever emotional damage you're dealing with.

I just went through a nasty breakup, and I definitely deserved that plate of love...

Locally Owned Eats Are Where It's At

It's not a chain, and it feels genuinely local, a trait that has become quite rare in Lubbock. There are no gimmicks or trendy neon signs. No fancy menu designed with filtered images to trick you. Just fabulous Thai food that's always served up fast by people who know exactly what they're doing.

Lubbock Has Exceptional Thai Food Restaurants

Everybody has a favorite Thai place here, and I'll say, I really do love them all, but Bangkok is still my number one. All of them deserve love, but these guys are a classic comfort place for me, and I think that's what has kept me coming back for years.

What to Know Before You Order

If you're a spice fanatic, Thai food is right up your alley, but it's important to know how to order before you end up begging for mercy from a plate of noodles. They do NOT play around with spices. At most places, you're given the option of regular, medium, or hot. Hot is HOT, but if you're a glutton for punishment and you want it insanely spicy, ask for your food to be "Thai spicy." That'll burn your gizzard clear off, so be careful. You've been warned.
