Texas lawmakers have decided to do away with temporary paper tags. This will be a slap in the face to criminals who use them to disguise stolen vehicles. They've even seen fake temporary Texas tags on cars up in New York.

Pretty bold, huh?

Bad guys won't be able to get away with it anymore. Beginning July, temporary metal tags will become the new standard in Texas.

Back in 2023, the Texas legislature passed a bill to eliminate paper tags and deemed that license plates would stay with a car even after it is sold. However, another bill passed that requires metal license plates must remain linked with the driver and not with the vehicle.

This will probably cut down on getting pulled over for crimes you haven't committed, based solely on the plates on a vehicle. Imagine buying a used car from an old drug dealer (unbeknownst to you) and having to deal with their license plates getting you pulled over constantly.

That would totally suck.. No, thanks.

If you sell a car in Texas, make sure you still submit a Vehicle Transfer Notice within 30 days so that you can update the records on your car. That's super important! Don't forget!
