Is Buc-ee's getting too big for its britches? And will this latest move to protect their "image" may do more harm than good?

I'll let you decide. Here's the facts.

According to Fox 4 News, Buc-ee's has filed a lawsuit against a North Texas gas chain claiming that their logo is too similar to the iconic and recognizable Buc-ee Beaver logo, which is a beaver's head wearing a red cap.

The chain being sued is Super Fuels, and their logo is a dog (torso and head) wearing a cape. You can see the logo in this video:

The lawsuit claims copyright infringement is happening because the logo is of an, "anthropomorphic and cartoon representation of a smiling animal that closely resembles a beaver, which is similarly positioned in a right-facing angle and is depicted in front of a circular background."

Personally I have been able to tell the difference between a dog and a beaver since kindergarten, but I'm no copyright lawyer, so I could be off-base here. I did find this comment on the above video pretty funny:

Lmao that’s a stretch, by that logic chuckee cheese is finna own a lot of gas stations soon

The lawsuit seeks a permanent injunction on the Super Fuels logo- meaning they could never use it again and would have to destroy any promotional items or products that have the logo on them.

It also seeks damages for lost profits because the logo "confused" consumers who stopped at Super Fuels thinking it was Buc-ee's.

There are 51 Buc-ee's locations and 3 Super Fuels.

Is Buc-ee's in the right, or is this a case of a big chain trying to pick off a small competitor? And will Buc-ee's fans back the beaver, or will this leave a sour taste in their mouth?

We will see, but in the meantime, Super Fuels may want to lay off making any "dog nuggets".
