Buns Over Texas (3402 73rd St) is a special place. When I want extra pickles, I literally want as many pickles as there is meat. At Buns, that's not a problem because you get to dress your fresh-off-the-grill burger yourself. I also love hearing, "Renee, Your Buns Are Up!" And don't forget the side of cheese fries.

From Lubbock to Miami

I am very thrilled that Buns Over Texas is getting the recognition it deserves for its fresh, juicy, perfectly cooked burgers (smothered in pickles or not). Buns Over Texas has been selected to represent Texas Tech University at the 2026 Orange Bowl Fan Fest Burger Battle, giving the local restaurant a national spotlight during one of the sport’s most high-profile events. The invitation places the Lubbock-based burger spot among a select group of restaurants chosen to compete during Orange Bowl festivities in Miami.

Alana Edgin of the Lubbock Avalanche Journal interviewed the family behind Buns Over Texas, who said they are thrilled to attend, especially after recent health struggles. The article is lovely, and you can read it here.

What the Orange Bowl Burger Battle Is

The Orange Bowl Burger Battle is a featured attraction of Fan Fest, pitting restaurants against one another as they represent their respective schools. Each competitor showcases its best burger in front of fans and judges, offering exposure well beyond their home market.

For Buns Over Texas, the event provides a chance to showcase its flavors to a national audience while carrying the Texas Tech banner.

Congrats to Buns Over Texas, I know you will represent us well. "Orange Bowl, Your Buns Are Up!"
