Chrissy Checks Out Fret Zealot, a Fun New Way to Learn to Play the Guitar

If you've been wanting to learn how to play the guitar, but you have the attention span of a fly (like I do), then Fret Zealot might just be the perfect way for you to get started. I just started using their program, and so far, I absolutely love it.

The first lesson I took was only 20 minutes long. I was a little bit worried because even though I play the piano pretty well and perform around town from time to time, I am a complete novice when it comes to the guitar. Luckily, the beginner lessons move slowly and by the end of the first lesson, I was really getting excited at the prospect of actually learning how to play the guitar.

Not only do your video lessons come from some of the most talented people on the planet, but Fret Zealot also has a state-of-the-art LED option for your guitar that colorizes your finger locations to help you learn songs and chords. It's really sweet. You just hook it up to the Bluetooth on your phone, choose the song or lesson on the Fret Zealot app, and you are ready to roll.

You may think that a colorized system wouldn't really help someone actually learn music theory. That's where you'd be wrong. They have tons of courses that delve into those topics. This is much more than a glorified Guitar Hero game. This is a new and innovative way to learn to play an instrument or improve your skills if you've been playing for a while. I'm all for it.

I'd say this would make a pretty great gift because it's really user-friendly. There are over 48,000 songs to choose from. I was surprised by just how many awesome songs they have in their library, and it only got me more stoked to keep practicing so that I can play all of my favorites.
