
GAME OVER: Here Is Every Texas GameStop Closing In January 2025
Strip mall staple Gamestop is closing many stores nationwide this month, including a dozen in Texas.
Gamestop, headquartered in Grapevine, Texas, had over 4,000 locations last year.
According to Game Rant, GameStop is closing the stores, "often with little to no warning" and most of the store closures are reported by employees and customers.
I found which Texas locations are closing at the end of the month through an incredibly comprehensive blog about the subject, that spans back to 2013.

GameStop has struggled like every other retail outlet because of online sales, and also because some video game makers are switching to digital-only access to games.
I like the ability to buy, sell, and trade physical copies of games, and the ability to buy an emergency controller so a third person can play Overcooked with me. That's why I was at GameStop this week.
GameStop got considerable media attention during the GameStop short squeeze of 2021, when Redditors on r/wallstreetbets collaborated to drive the price of GameStop stocks to astronomical heights, thereby ruining many so-called "short sellers" who were betting on the company failing.

The event, and all the attention around it, sparked a nostalgia for the store in many. Many of us bought games that were important to us inside these little stores and talked to other fans of the game.
Gaming is not inherently anti-social many of us bonded over our shared love of certain titles. So here's hoping these closings are not a sign of more to come.
