Chocolate chip cookies are an American orginal, invented in 1938 by Ruth Wakefield and were originally called "Toll House" cookies. It is a myth that she made the cookies by accident in an attempt to make regular chocolate cookies- this woman was the real deal and a professional chef.

Chocolate Chip Cookies are the official state cookie of Massachusetts, where Ruth invented them. Texas does not have an official cookie, but it should be Cowboy, duh.

It is estimated that 7 BILLION chocolate chip cookies are eaten each year and that half of all cookies made at home are chocolate chip.
