Did you know that the City of Lubbock has juvenile curfew laws?

I wasn't aware of it, and I think it's safe to say a lot of us also weren't. I could just be stupid, though.

I was a pretty "safe" kid. I never went out to parties, didn't commit any crimes, and didn't stay out very late. I usually would stay home and stay up into the early morning hours playing Team Fortress 2 with the boys, so I never had a reason to know about curfew.

However, the Lubbock Municipal Court says that in 2022, there's been a notable increase in juvenile curfew cases. Apparently, out of all Class C misdemeanors the court sees, the overwhelming majority of them are juvenile curfew cases.

For weeknights, curfew begins at 11 p.m. and ends at 6 a.m. For Friday, Saturday and nights preceding school holidays, it's from 12 p.m. to 6 a.m. Even if a child has been given permission by their parent to be in a public space, the curfew still applies and parents can still be issued a citation for a curfew violation.

KAMC News says that even going out to see a movie late enough in the evening could lead to a citation. Personally, I think that's pretty lame, but considering all the shootings and other crimes that go down in the Hub City, I understand the need to keep the young'uns safe.

So if you weren't aware of the Juvenile Curfew laws in Lubbock, now you are.
