First Friday Art Trail in Lubbock: Tips, Highlights, and What to Expect
On one night each month, Lubbock's Arts District comes fully alive with people, food, live music, and incredible art during the First Friday Art Trail (FFAT).
What Is Lubbock’s First Friday Art Trail?
If you are new to Lubbock because you are attending Texas Tech, or you moved here for a great place to raise your family, let me say a big "Welcome!" to you.
Lubbock's First Friday is a long-running tradition that started as artists coming together to put on gallery shows in questionable old buildings, and sometimes there was a keg and/or cheese. Those days were awesome.

Now it's even better, more official, and much more organized. There are currently 15 official venues on the trail, primarily located in the Arts District and Downtown Lubbock (although there are a couple in other parts of Lubbock).
While most of the action is centered around LHUCA (511 Avenue K), I would encourage you to explore a little further out, as those venues have truly remarkable and unique experiences of their own.
Where to Park for the First Friday Art Trail
This is a great question, although the better question is "When". I cannot recommend getting there early enough.

I recommend parking at the Civic Center parking lot (1501 Mac Davis Ln). The trail officially starts at 6, so a little before will help save you some headache. I also recommend carpooling if you can.
For the further flung venues, you can usually find a parking spot right in front. Again, another reason to visit these folks, too.
How to Make the Most of Your First Friday Experience
There is plenty to see and do at FFAT- from food trucks to live music and, of course, viewing art.
I recommend wearing that outfit you've been dying to show off. The fashion of the people on the trail is one of my favorite incidental things about it. Just remember you'll be standing and walking a lot.
Take pictures! I wish I had more. But here's one:
I also recommend exploring and allowing yourself to adventure. There are some unoffical venues that will be open, too, and you might find yourself having quite a bit of fun there.
Try the food truck with the shorter line. Long lines are not always a sign of quality, and they'll eat up your trail time.
Be social, but also allow yourself some alone time to truly take in the art. You might find yourself moved by a painting, drawing, or even an installation.
Have fun at FFAT!
