Texas residents have a clear preference when it comes to travel destinations.

A Texans Travel Regrets

I never really wanted to travel. I was more of a "I got everything I need right here" kind of guy. As I've got older and travelled more out of necessity, I feel like I've missed out. I would hope you'd take my experience and hit the road or air if you feel the slightest urge or you might regret it later. There's a lot waiting for you out there.

Texas Top Destination

Mental Floss used Google Trends to put together a map of the most searched for flight destinations for the United States. So where do Texans want to go? That answer is: Mexico City! It's unknown if the reason for this is family or recreation, but we aren't the only ones. For some reason the state of Indiana also chose Mexico City. Kansas was a bit more specific with Cabo San Lucas while Vermont chose "Cancun".

Why Mexico?

So what's the attraction with Mexico? The answer may be "everything". Personally I'd put food on the top of my list. There are also beautiful beaches, Mayan ruins, art, history, and some of the friendliest people you'd ever meat. There are resorts galore and plenty of things to fill your day.

Other Answers

Some of the answers from other states are a bit odd. "Phoenix" came up a number of times. While it's certainly a nice place, it doesn't quite have the cache of some of the more exotic places. I mean no offense to the good people of Arizona, but as a tourist destination I don't see it ranking up there with Hawaii, Costa Rica, or Japan. Also, for some reason the top destination for people of Wyoming, is Minot, North Dakota. I'll let you try to figure that one out.
