Lubbock has no shortage of places to eat, but now and then, you find a spot that just hits different. That’s exactly what Flipper’s Tavern delivers.

At first glance, it's a divey arcade bar with pinball machines and a super laid-back vibe, but let's be honest: you're not there just for the games. You're there for the dope-ass dogs.

These are NOT your average cookout hot dogs, either. These hot dogs are works of art, y'all.

Flipper’s takes a simple idea and turns it into something borderline nutty, in the best way. Big, delicious, loaded dogs with toppings that somehow balance perfectly. We’re talking bold combos that you don't see on the menu at other places, like bacon jam, jalapeños, queso, and creamy spreads that shouldn’t work together.

I have never had a bad experience there, either. The staff is awesome. The food is excellent. The atmosphere is perfect. Not only do they have the best hot dogs in town, but they also nail it when it comes to all of the other things you look for in a great restaurant.

Even the basics are done right. The buns are soft but hold up, the portions are generous, and every bite actually feels thought-out, not just thrown together.

They stand out because they aren't trying to be fancy. They are just REALLY good at what they do.

The vibes help, too. Little weird. Little eccentric. Feels like something you'd find in a way bigger and cooler city. We are super lucky to have them here.

At the end of the day, Flipper’s proves something important: sometimes the best food in town isn’t complicated. Sometimes…it’s just a really, really good hot dog. If you've never been, I highly recommend snagging one today.
