My wife and I just recently got a new puppy and have been going through all the ups and downs of training the new puppy. Fortunately, she is a smart dog and has learned very quickly when it comes to needing to go outside. And we aren't the only ones who got new dog for Christmas or around the holiday.

And the last thing you want to do as as a a new puppy owner is to lose you pet! Even if you don't have a puppy, no one wants to lose their dog. And while collars are nice and help on walks and during training, there are no guarantees that the collar and ID that was attached to the collar will stay on if your four-legged friend decided to dig out or crawl out of your backyard.

That's why dogs should be microchipped. When dogs get microchipped their information goes into a national database and ownership of the dog can be proven in no time at all.

And today, Friday, February 18 at Clapp Dog Park at Avenue U and 46th Street, Lubbock Animal Services will be providing microchipping for free! There is no limit on the amount of pets that can be microchipped, so bring the entire pack with you.

The free microchipping event will begin at 3:30 p.m. and last until 5:30 p.m. Expect a crowd of people and try to get in line as early as possible. Also, keep your dog on a leash and under control. The event is being hosted by the Lubbock Animal Shelter Adoption Center.

Hurry and get your pet microchipped for free!
