5 Things You Can Get Free in Lubbock That People Forget About
Lubbock has a reputation for being a place where you can really get a bang for a buck. We have lots of great places to explore without spending a fortune. There are also some genuinely useful things you can get for free in this town that are often overlooked.
Check out five that are definitely worth knowing about.
1. A Lubbock Public Library Card
If you live in Lubbock County, you can get a Lubbock Public Library card for free. The best part? That card gets you a whole lot more than just books!
There are DVDs, audiobooks, books, and digital materials through certain apps like Hoopla and Libby. You also get free Wi-Fi, community programs, public computer use, and even free notary services.
If your idea of the library is that it's just a building full of books, you might want to stop by and see what it's actually like. It's awesome!
2. Free Wi-Fi
I mentioned free Wi-Fi at the library, but did you know you don't even have to sit inside to use it? All Lubbock Public Libraries offer free Wi-Fi in their parking lots from 7 am to 10 pm. It's part of their "Park and Learn" program.

3. Free Mulch
This one is cool, and most people have zero clue.
You can get free mulch at the Southside Citizens Convenience Station. Bring your own tools and something to haul the mulch away in. It's 100% free! You're probably already spending an arm and a leg trying to make your yard look nice. Free mulch will save you a couple of bucks. You're welcome.
4. Free Disposal of Certain Household Waste
Depending on the location you choose, Lubbock residents can drop off bulky trash items, used oil, yard debris, antifreeze, oil filters, and other big recyclable materials for free at the Citizens Convenience Station.
The Southside location is where you should take hazardous household waste like pesticides, pool chemicals, and paint. Be sure to call for an appointment ahead of time.
Before you decide something belongs in the dumpster, check with these guys. It may be totally free to drop it off with them!
5. Free Places To Spend An Afternoon
Did you know there are over 80 city parks in Lubbock? That means we have more than 80 places to walk, play, picnic, and hang out without having to pay any kind of admission fee.
From Clapp Park to Mae Simmons, there are plenty of things to do that don't involve your wallet. Sometimes, the best price in town is $0.
