Every Lubbock Friend Group Has These 5 People

There’s something weirdly predictable about friend groups in Lubbock. It doesn’t matter if you met in high school, at work, or through someone's cousin's bachelorette party. Give it a little time, and the same personalities start to form. It’s like the wind, the flat land, and the shared experience of “there’s not much to do, so we might as well hang out at Wienerschnitzel” just naturally sort people into roles or something.

You don't notice right off the bat when it happens. One day, it's just a group chat. The next thing you know, everyone has a type, and somehow, no matter who comes or goes, those roles ALWAYS get filled again! It's less of a friend group...more like a rotating cast with very specific characters.

First off, your friend group has The One Who Never Left. They were born here, they stayed here, and they are thriving here now. They know every single back road, and they always know at least 4 people everywhere you go. They are often the backbone of the group.

Next, we have The Boomerang. They represent the friend who left, swearing they would never come back to Lubbock. They posted all kinds of photos of exotic places on Instagram for months...and yet, here they are again.

After that, we have the Texas Tech University Lifer. Either still in school, works there, or just refuses to emotionally graduate. Sometimes, this person never even went to Texas Tech. The obsession runs exceptionally strong in them. We've all got this friend.

Then we have the "I'm Moving Soon" Person. We support them fully, but we don't really believe them. They've been saying it for 17 years now.

And last but not least, The One Who Knows Everyone. It's impressive, but it's also incredibly inconveniant when you're in public. They talk for hours, know every restaurant owner, every cop, bartender, store clerk, etc. You name'em, they know them.
