Growing up in Lubbock, my grandmother and I hit up garage sales on Saturday mornings. It was a fun way to spend time together and spend a few bucks when my Granddaddy wasn't looking. He was a big-time penny pincher, but I guess that's the key to retiring with money in the bank.
Honestly, we never really spent a whole lot. I'd say maybe $20 between every single place we stopped. She had a way of getting great deals for basically nothing.
She was a pro at finding the best places to stop in the 90s, but the times have changed. Back then, newspapers and handmade signs were our main resources.
Let's take an updated look at the best ways to find great garage sales in Lubbock.
1. Start Your Day In The Older Neighborhoods
Older neighbors often mean older homeowners. They've had decades to accumulate goodies to put in a sale. You'll stumble across vintage items, collectibles, and things people have long forgotten were actually valuable.
2. Look for Neighborhood-Wide Sales
This is basically equivalent to hitting the jackpot when it comes to garage sales. You don't have to drive all over town, and can usually stop at dozens of places in a single outing. Check out GarageSaleFinder.com for listings on neighborhood-wide sales.
3. Don't Sleep on Wolfforth, Shallowater, Levelland, and Idalou
Sometimes, the best finds are just outside of city limits. There are also fewer shoppers in those areas to compete with.
4. Craigslist Is Still A Thing!
You don't hear of people using it as often as you did 10 or 15 years ago, but Craigslist is still blowing and going, especially in the garage sale department. Check for estate sales, moving sales, and multi-family events. You might find some great places to shop.
5. Join All The Local Facebook Garage Sale Groups
If you aren't in them already, join them now! If you don't have a Facebook account, this is actually a good reason to get one.

6. Follow The Homemade Signs To Victory
The cuter the sign, the better your chances are. I know that sounds crazy, but if they are putting in a bunch of effort with markers and such, they've got some goodies to sell and are hoping you'll come by.
7. Get Out Early
My grandmother always stressed this one. Most of the good stuff is gone by lunch time, so you've got to get up before the sun and get moving! It'll be worth it, and you can take a nap when you get home...maybe even on your new, gently used, sofa!
8. Look for Multi-Family Sales
More families = more stuff.
More stuff = better odds you'll find something awesome.
9. Watch for Estate Sales
Looking for antiques, vintage decor, tools, and unique collectibles? The estate sales are the place for you. You'll typically find most of these listed in the newspaper, but you'll see them alongside traditional garage sale signs, too.
10. Never Judge a Sale by the Front Yard
Some of the most disappointing-looking sales end up having the best items tucked away in the garage, the backyard, or a shed somewhere. Don't judge a book by its cover when it comes to garage saling in West Texas.
Truthfully, finding the best garage sales in Lubbock isn't just about having great luck. It's about planning, patience, and knowing where to look. Check all the listings. Follow all the signs. Hit up the big sales. Don't be afraid to make a couple of wrong turns here or there. If you get frustrated and drive off, you'll lose out on something fabulous!
Good luck garage saling this weekend, friends!
