Gluten-free baked goods have come a LONG way, but let's be honest, guys: some of them still taste like baked cardboard with a sprinkle of potting soil on top.
I was sadly told by my doctors last year that gluten was causing me some major tummy issues, and that if I wanted to feel better, it might be time to drop it from my diet.
It's NOT been fun. Not at all.
The Times Are Changing
Thankfully, in 2026, things are significantly better than they were in the past. I remember sampling a couple of different gluten-free items in the 90s and early 2000s at a friend's house, and lord have mercy, they were disgusting.
Whatever they were, they were not food.
If you're living a gluten-free lifestyle in Lubbock, you probably already have a favorite spot for treats. But if you're new to it, like I am, I'll share a little secret.
Go To Sprouts!
I know, I know. It's a bit pricey to do full-on grocery shopping there, BUT if you're in the mood for a few gluten-free treats, this is the spot.
I walked over there yesterday with a very specific mission: spend no more than $5.
Funny, right? Only spend 5 bucks at Sprouts? Impossible...
I made it happen!
I left with some ridiculously good gluten-free apple pie bars.

So good, in fact, that I made an entire TikTok about them.
The bars were sweet, buttery, apple-pie goodness. They were the flavors you're actually looking for when you want dessert, rather than the familiar gluten-free experience of chewing something and wondering how far away the closest trash can is...just in case.
They've actually got a HUGE selection of gluten-free baked goods, if apple pie isn't your style. It's definitely worth the drive over just to scope them out.
As of now, Sprouts is my personal favorite spot for gluten-free snackies.
Are they more expensive? Absolutely.
Were they totally worth it? Absolutely.
When the gluten-free baked goods be hittin', sometimes you're going to have to sacrifice a little more for your happiness...
