In 2026, independent horror has been ruling the box office with massive hits like Backrooms and Obsession. Hub City Horror Film Fest at the Cactus Theater

The festival will be held in an absolutely perfect spot- the historic Cactus Theater (1812 Buddy Holly) on October 30th. Tickets are available that night for $10 or $7 in advance. Tickets will be available for purchase through Cactus Theater's website this week (the week of 9/21/2026).

Not only is Cactus Theater beautiful, but they also have great and very reasonably priced concessions, from buttery popcorn to a nice glass of red wine (which I like to pair with chocolate). Situated in the historic Depot District, a visit to the Cactus makes for a lovely Lubbock night out. For more Cactus events, including film screenings and live music, check out their calendar of events.
