One of Lubbock's largest and longest-running comic conventions has opted not to return for 2023. Hub City Comic Con (HCCC) made the announcement via social media on July, 4th, 2023.

I had noticed a lack of information about this year, as HCCC usually hits Lubbock sometime in August. I began to have suspicions in June when I had not heard anything about ticketing, guests or planned events. Most cons will start promoting at least one aspect of the Con at least a couple of months in advance, and as a certified Nerd Person, I pay close attention.

Despite tireless efforts by our team, we have been unable to secure a booking with the venue that would allow for the experience that you deserve. We are committed to excellence and not willing to compromise the experience of the show.

Luckily for us, this appears to simply be a one-year hiatus due to scheduling conflicts, with the dates of August 23-25, 2024 secured at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. Additionally, HCCC has commited to bring smaller events throughout the year, such as signings, vendors, and events to be determined/ announced. HCCC has even pledged to make most of these events free to attend.

If you already purchased tickets, HCCC has stated that your 2023 tickets will be upgraded for 2024's event.

It is my sincere hope that HCCC comes back bigger and stronger than ever in 2024. For way too long, Lubbock had nothing to very little in the way of Cons. Cons are special to me, as they represent an opportunity to let go and truly be your own geeky self in a safe environment that's welcoming to everyone.

See you soon HCCC.
