Lubbock Residents Share Their Funniest Late-life Realizations

There's a special kind of realization that smacks you in the face when you're an adult: discovering something insanely simple that everyone else seems to have known about forever. It's humbling, sometimes embarrassing, and often, downright hilarious.

We decided to ask Lubbock to reveal the simple lessons they learned far too late in life. Some of the answers were practical, and others were more philosophical. A couple of them made us question who could survive without knowing these basic things...

Simple Thing We Didn't Know

One woman admitted that she spent 40 years squinting at the tiny plus and minus symbols on batteries before she realized that the flat side always faces the spring. (I must admit, I did the same thing...)

Another good one came from a man who discovered far too late that the little arrow on your gas gauge indicates which side of your vehicle the gas tank is located on. That is truly an exciting discovery, my friend.

Some lessons were much deeper. Several people said they learned to value their own time far too late in life. One man shared that it took him years to finally learn to love himself and not take himself too seriously. Powerful stuff.

And, one man summed up adult life perfectly with one simple realization: "having kids is way easier than people think...which is how I ended up with four by the age of 28."

The moral of the story? Life is basically just a long series of realizing things you probably should have found out many years ago. We are all just learning things as we go. Don't let anyone fool you otherwise.
