Texas Tech could not overcome the myriad of penalties and Alan Bowman's freshman mistakes, which included three interceptions, a pick-six, and a late safety off of an intentional grounding in the end zone.

Texas Tech never quit, but seemed to be fighting fate all day long before Iowa State finally pulled away to ice the game with an interception, their third of the game, with 1:40 left.

The momentum first shifted in Iowa State's favor when Jordyn Brooks was called for targeting in the first half. That penalty carries an automatic ejection, which is not ideal for the Texas Tech defense.

Beyond Iowa State's three interceptions, they also held Texas Tech to just 30 rushing yards and dominated most of the game.

Texas Tech had some bright spots in the game, but could never get into any kind of rhythm. Blame that on anything you want, but officiating, the Jack Trice crowd and playcalling are my key contributors.

Antoine Wesley was the bright spot for Texas Tech's offense, with eight catches for 119 yards and a big touchdown. Dakota Allen is the player of the game on defense, for a huge forced fumble in the end zone to tie the game up at 31.

There were also a lot of great special teams plays from Texas Tech, including a blocked punt for a touchdown, a field goal and an entire afternoon of great punts from Dominic Panazzolo.

Iowa State is now 3-0 behind Brock Purdy and 4-3 overall, while Texas Tech moves to 5-3. Kliff Kingsbury is now 0-3 against Matt Campbell. The Red Raiders head back to Lubbock to play back-to-back home games against the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns.
