Brace Yourself, Texas: Highly Active Hurricane Season Continues, Say Experts
After Hurricane Beryl battered south Texas, many residents who live along the gulf are contemplating if there will be another devastating tropical storm.
Experts warn that it very well may be possible.
One thing to keep in mind is that parts of the Texas gulf are actually more vulnerable to hurricane landfalls compared to other parts of the world.
What's in Store for Hurricane Season?
Well.....you might want to stock up on supplies.
Hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th, and the peak of the season is typically during August and September. Considering we already had a gnarly hurricane early in the season that caused approximately $6 billion in damage, what could possibly be next?
The 2024 hurricane season outlook projects 90% of Atlantic tropical storms to be above normal strength.
They predicted:
- 17-25 named storms
- 8-13 hurricanes
- 4-7 major hurricanes
Compared to a typical season with:
- 14 named storms
- 7 hurricanes
- 3 major hurricanes.
NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad, Ph.D. stated:
“The hurricane season got off to an early and violent start with Hurricane Beryl, the earliest category-5 Atlantic hurricane on record. NOAA’s update to the hurricane seasonal outlook is an important reminder that the peak of hurricane season is right around the corner, when historically the most significant impacts from hurricanes and tropical storms tend to occur.”
Knowing this, it is important for those living along the Texas Gulf to prepare accordingly to keep yourself and your loved ones safe. With the likelihood of Atlantic hurricanes taking to land like Hurricane Beryl did, it's better safe than sorry.
