There are a few things that instantly spark holiday debates in Texas: real vs. artificial trees, when it’s acceptable to start playing Christmas music, and now--eggnog. According to new holiday sales data from Instacart, Texans aren’t exactly lining up to pour a glass of the creamy seasonal classic.

Instacart analyzed nationwide grocery sales from last year’s holiday season and mapped out which states love eggnog--and which ones would rather leave it on the shelf. The results show a clear divide, and Texas landed firmly on the “no thanks” side.

Where Texas Ranks on Eggnog Love

When it comes to eggnog enthusiasm, Texas ranks among the states that dislike it the most. In fact, Texas is listed in the bottom group nationwide, alongside states like Florida, California, Illinois, and Louisiana.

Florida claimed the top spot for eggnog dislike, which makes sense when December temperatures still feel like summer. Texas wasn’t far behind, suggesting that even during cooler West Texas winters, eggnog still hasn’t won us over.

Other states joining Texas near the bottom include Oklahoma and Pennsylvania, proving that eggnog resistance isn’t just a warm-weather thing--it’s a taste preference.

The States That Can’t Get Enough Eggnog

On the opposite end of the spectrum, New Hampshire topped the list as the state that loves eggnog the most. Cold-weather states dominated the top rankings, including Vermont, Alaska, Maine, and Wyoming.

Interestingly, New Mexico also made the top ten, putting one of Texas’ closest neighbors firmly in the eggnog-loving camp. Apparently, crossing the state line changes everything!

The pattern is clear: colder climates seem to embrace eggnog’s rich, creamy texture, while warmer states like Texas remain skeptical.

What Texans Are Buying Instead

While eggnog may not be a Texas favorite, Instacart data shows plenty of other holiday foods surging in popularity across the state. Texans are loading up on ribeye roasts, prime rib, and beef tenderloin, which feels very on-brand.

Classic holiday treats like gingerbread cookies and even fruitcake also see seasonal spikes. And yes, antacids trend right along with them--because holiday indulgence is universal.

Eggnog Isn’t Dead—Just Not Big in Texas

Eggnog may be a December staple in parts of the country, but in Texas, it’s clearly not the drink of choice. Whether it’s the grody texture, the flavor, or just tradition, Texans seem content skipping the nog and sticking with heartier holiday fare--like whiskey!
