This Abandoned House Is Tanking Property Values In One Texas Neighborhood
It seems like in every highly desirable neighborhood, there's always one house that looks like it's completely out of place, and needs a exorcism more than a remodel. In one West Texas neighborhood, we found a potentially beautiful house that either needs to be flipped, or demolished.
At the busy corner of 19h Street and Slide Road on Lubbock, sits a 3 bedroom, 3 bath home that has been on the corner since 1953. It is on a massive 2 acre lot, and is clearly abandoned.
Most of the windows are boarded up, and graffiti artists have made their mark on the front of the house. According to Zillow and Realtor.com, the house is valued at anywhere between $435,00 and $549,000.
Yeah, I call BS on that.
Unless they are factoring in the value of the land, the only thing I'd pay for this house is the $3.00 to buy a gallon of gas and a match. But, it doesn't matter, because this firetrap isn't on the market anyway.
Although...2 acres in a prime part of town could definitely fetch a pretty penny, but as much as there are those who still hold this place near and dear to their hearts, they may have a point. After all, there's nothing wrong with this property that a good coat of fire can't fix. Without delving too far into why the house has been allowed to rot, let's just call it, it's time to bring in the bulldozers, and put up something beautiful.
The pool, however, might be worth saving.
Might be. I didn't want to climb the fence for fear some squatter inside might take a potshot at me, or that a rabid badger could launch himself out of the poolhouse.
This house could be something, I won't deny that. But, it's going to take someone who is willing to put in the time and effort, and also the current owners to actually decide to sell the place to someone who wants to make it beautiful.
But, until then...it's an eyesore that thousands of people who pass this intersection see every day, and a symbol of a Lubbock that is deteriorating by the second.
