AI-Based Gun Detection System Coming To Lubbock Hospital
University Medical Center is partnering with a veteran operated company called ZeroEyes for more security at UMC. According to a press release on Tuesday, the program being deployed in Lubbock is a new AI-based gun detection system.
UMC is the first hospital in the region to use such software which they say is necessary with the rising threat of workplace violence.
ZeroEyes integrates into existing security cameras and uses a human verified gun detection and situational awareness software to detect and confirm threats.
So how does the system work?
According to KAMC, anytime someone walks into UMC the ZeroEyes program will scan and survey that person. If the system detects a weapon, a trained U.S. military or law enforcement veteran will review the alert to determine if the threat is credible. If it is a credible threat, UMC police will be contacted.
“And we’ll have appropriate personnel response to that alert,” Hill said. Since some individuals, such as law enforcement, are permitted to carry a weapon, Hill said UMC will use the system to help identify who should and shouldn’t be carrying on the campus.
The new AI system is expected to be implemented by mid-August.
