I have to say, this one surprised me. I didn't see this small dog as the fifth most popular dog breed in Texas, but apparently it's due to the history of the dog and the immigrants who made their way to Texas long ago. According to Hepper.com, they were brought over by immigrants working in mills and the breed was excellent at catching rats.

This should surprise no one. Labs are fantastic dogs and one of the most popular dogs in the United States. In fact they have been ranked as the most loved dog in America. Who doesn't love a lab?

This one also surprised me until I thought about it some more. There has been an explosion in ownership of French Bulldogs, also known as Frenchies in recent years. For those who live in cities or downtown areas, they are much easier to deal with than say a lab. And with apartments popping up everywhere, so are French Bulldogs.

Again, this shouldn't surprise anyone. The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in America. They are kind, gentle dogs and very smart.

According to Hepper.com, the breed was developed in the 1800's to help with herding, hunting, and ranch work. They are very smart and kind dogs that come with a ton of energy.
