
Lubbock Man Gets 25 Years For Executive Inn Murder
On Friday, Leeroy Trevino, Jr., 20, pleaded guilty to the 2024 murder of 34-year-old Jose Gonzalez. As a result, Trevino received a 25-year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) from the 137th District Court Judge Trey McClendon.
The Murder of Jose Gonzalez in Lubbock
KFYO previously reported the murder in April of 2024. It was April 13 when Lubbock police responded to a call of shots fired at Executive Inn located at 44th and Ave Q.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found 34-year-old Jose Gonzalez in a motel room suffering from a gunshot wound. Gonzalez was rushed to University Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators discovered that Gonzalez left his motel room just moments before the shooting and got into his car. This was when Trevino and one accomplice approached the vehicle and attempted to break in. As Gonzalez began to reverse the car in order to escape, both attackers produced firearms and opened fire.
According to witness reports, both suspects fled the scene after running across the parking lot and through a hole in a fence.

Trevino was caught and arrested by police on April 17, 2024, and he pleaded guilty to the murder of Jose Gonzalez on January 30, 2026, receiving a 25-year sentence in state prison.
Trevino's accomplice is still awaiting disposition from the courts.
