An Army Tank Fell Off A Truck In Texas

Somebody, I would hope it's the army, is short a tank after this one fell off a truck on I - 10 in Texas.

A tank being transported to or from ... I'm not sure which, the news report didn't give that info ... Camp Bullis, near San Antonio, didn't make it to its destination. At least, not on the first try anyway.

The tank, which weighs about 16 thousand pounds according to the WOAI video you can watch below, was on a privately owned flatbed as opposed to a military transport. It and its carry vehicle were on their own, not part of a military convoy, and no uniformed military peeps were seen at the site of the tanks "dismount".

The tank was identified as an M109 Howitzer. It doesn't appear to be damaged ... those things are pretty tough you know ... and seems to have just slid slightly, but not completely, off the trailer. See for yourself in the video:

M109 Howitzer tanks have been around since the 1960's and they, believe it or not, are ... kinda ... amphibious.

The M109 is fitted with night-vision equipment, but does not have nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) warfare protection. The vehicle can be fitted with an amphibious kit consisting of nine air bags, four on each side of the hull and one at the front. The bags are inflated from the vehicle, which can then propel itself across rivers on its tracks at a maximum speed of 4 mph (6 kmh). - military.com
