The Beautiful Texas Swimming Hole You May Regret Visiting
One of the most beautiful swimming holes in Texas is quite a trek and it's also a little dangerous but peeps say it's totally worth it.
An area known as the Blanco River Narrows in the Texas Hill Country is well known to hikers, swimmers and loves of the outdoors in general for its beauty and remoteness.
It's also got a rep for not only being a very challenging journey, it's also known for being a dangerous one and it's not animals or fall risks that make it so ... it's the locals.
Getting to the Blanco River Narrows is no Sunday stroll. It's a grueling march, (about 14 miles), through different terrain and water crossings. If you make it, you'll find yourself in a beautiful canyon with the cliff walls sometimes only 10 feet apart.

Along the way, you should keep your eyes open for snakes and other animals but for the most part you're ok with them - it's the humans you have to watch out for.
Some of the local landowners aren't too cool when it comes to strangers accessing their land and are very protective of it. One visitor returned to her car after visiting and found all 4 valve stems ripped out of her tires.
Why Go There?
To many hikers in Texas, the Narrows is the Holy Grail, hidden somewhere on the Blanco between the triangle of Henly, Blanco, and Fischer. The trip offers hikers the two things they always pursue: a challenging hike and the promise of an unparalleled view. The gorge, about a quarter-mile long, looks like a place where the earth has split open, with bedrock pulled apart to reveal spring-fed pools. - texashighways
Looks like cliff diving is a thing too as well as swimming and chilling. That's the upside.
What Are The Risks?
On the downside, the terrain is rough, there are water crossings, the heat and/or weather can be tough, there are no maps and cell service is spotty at best. Not to mention angry property owners.
Watch for purple paint on trees and rocks along the way. The painted markings are a boundary and should absolutely be regarded as a "keep out" sign. Again, not all of the locals are friendly.
It does seem truly worth it though. Watch the video above or see some pics here. You can also join the "Trek To The Narrows" Facebook group and see some there.
