Ah, back-to-school season in El Paso! While some parents are hyped for the return of school structure (not me cheering because I won’t be cooking every hour for my teenage son anymore), local teachers are bracing for something way less exciting: A hit to their bank accounts. *cries in Spanish*

Last year, I wrote about how Texas teachers were dropping an eye-popping $1,396 out-of-pocket on school supplies which was reported to be the highest in the nation. A year later? Not much has changed, except maybe the size of the receipt.

Texas Teachers Brace for Another School Year—And Another Financial Blow

According to a 2024–2025 survey by AdoptAClassroom.org, teachers are still spending an average of $895 of their own money on school supplies. My eLearning World reports a similar number: $883.60. And here's the kicker—97% of teachers say the funds provided by their schools just don’t cut it. The median school-supplied budget? A mere $200.

While educators can deduct up to $300 (or $600 for dual-educator couples) on their taxes, it’s not enough to make up for what they invest in their students’ futures.

So, I have said it once and I will continue saying it: TEACHER’S ARE OVER WORKED AND UNDER PAID AND THEY ARE THE REAL SUPER HEROES!!! GIVE THEM A RAISE!!
