Full disclosure: my ears were "pierced" with a gun in a mall store when I was five years old, and they are perfectly even and fine. I was a big girl and didn't even cry!

Why Piercing Guns Might Be A Bad Idea

We all know the phrase "when you know better, do better." Now we know that piercing guns actually just shove blunt jewelry through the earlobe, which is more painful and more difficult to heal. And the jewelry used doesn't have long enough posts to promote proper healing.

Additionally, most piercing guns cannot be totally autoclaved, meaning that potentially serious bacteria and viruses can still be crawling on them from person to person. Yuck! The Association of Professional Piercers puts it even more bluntly:

Reusable ear piercing guns can put clients in direct contact with the blood and body fluids of previous clients. Although they can become contaminated with bloodborne pathogens dozens of times in one day, ear piercing guns are often not sanitized in a medically recognized way.

Where Can Kids Get Ear Piercings In Lubbock?

Not every tattoo shop has a piercer on staff, and not every piercer will work on children. I highly recommend you call ahead before making your kid any promises; however, according to some comments on a recent Facebook post, it appears that these shops do pierce kids' ears (with a parent present and appropriate paperwork/ IDs, of course):

Liquid Ink (Inside South Plains Mall)

Euphoria Piercing Lounge LBK (4502 50th St, Suite 100)

Ghost Riders (3610 Avenue Q, Suite 115)

Apex Ink (1517 Texas)

What You Will Need When You Go

You will almost certainly need a birth certificate that matches the legal ID of the parent. Prices will range based on jewelry, piercer experience, etc. You will need to use jewelry provided by the shop, or that has been previously dropped off and autoclaved (only certain metals can be autoclaved). The piercer may have more conditions for doing a piercing, like the child must be able to verbally consent to the procedure.

Final Note

Please, please please, follow the aftercare instructions your piercer provides you! And don't forget to show them your appreciation with a tip.

Joyland was a quirky, vintage treasure that Lubbockites enjoyed for generations. It is deeply missed, but lives on in memories, and in great photos like these.
