Lubbock Is Home to Some Truly Stranger Things
The season finale of Stranger Things is done, so why not just watch your neighbors?
If you’ve wrapped up the season finale of Stranger Things, you might be feeling that familiar post-binge void. For more than five years, we followed the adventures of Mike, Dustin, Will, Eleven, and the rest of the Hawkins crew as they faced monsters, government conspiracies, and the ultimate “big bad.” They saved the world, showed us how ordinary people can be heroes, and somehow made bike helmets and walkie-talkies feel epic again. It was inspiring… and a little goofy.
But when it comes to goofy, Lubbock has a response: hold my beer.
From “Florida Man” to “LBK Man”
We’ve all heard the legendary “Florida Man” stories — bizarre headlines featuring questionable decisions and wild misadventures. While the Sunshine State does seem to have a disproportionate amount of hijinks, there’s a fair question to ask: is it really happening more there, or are we just looking harder?
That question hit home once I started following LBK Scanner Squad on Facebook.
A Front-Row Seat to Local Weirdness
LBK Scanner Squad shares short, out-of-context snippets pulled from police and emergency scanner traffic. Most of it is routine and forgettable, but every so often you’ll stumble across something that makes you stop, squint, and say, “Wait… what?”
Recent gems include:
“Motorcycle flew past a cop going 140 mph”
“Caller hears people in their attic”
“Subject at 34th & Q throwing objects at cars”
“Broken down truck pulling a trailer” (which somehow feels aggressively on-brand)
“Man armed with a stick”
- "Male with one shoe on is throwing things in the parking lot"
“Son brings home a dog that mom can’t keep”
None of these are world-ending threats or supernatural showdowns, but taken together they paint a wonderfully strange picture of everyday life in Hub City.
Why It’s So Entertaining
These moments add a layer of weirdness you rarely see on TV news. They’re not polished, they’re not sensationalized — they’re just odd slices of reality passing by on the scanner. It’s like watching Stranger Things without the monsters… just neighbors.
If you’re looking for the occasional chuckle, head shake, or reminder that reality can be stranger than fiction, LBK Scanner Squad is worth a follow.
